Microsoft announces Python integration with Excel

Recently Microsoft in collaboration with programming language repository provider, Anaconda has announced native integration for Python in Excel.

It is a major thrust for analytical proficiency. Now one can use Python's data analysis function and graphic visualization in Excel's features. Users can type Python programs in Excel sheets, the calculation is done in Microsoft Cloud and the output is shown in a worksheet with graphs and visuals. This is done to make it easy for data analytics to analyze data through an Excel worksheet.

Although many attempts were made earlier to use Python code within Excel the company said in its post that the native integration for Python in Excel will allow the users to use the new PY feature - Use Python code directly into Excel cells and perform functions like data cleaning, data analysis, and machine learning due to introduction of new tools e. g. Pivot Tables and Excel Charts.

Users can also extract external data files into Python in Excel workflows. They can also use Python libraries like scikit-learn and statsmodels to implement forecasting techniques, regression analysis, and time series modeling. They can also share workbooks with their friends and colleagues through platforms like Outlook.

The feature is available to those using Beta Channel on Windows. Those who want to use Python in Excel will have to join the Microsoft 365 Insider Program.

In preview, users can get Python in Excel into a Microsoft 365 subscription but some functions will remain inactive without a paid license.
